Let us, then, feel very sure that we can come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we can receive mercy and grace to help us when we need it.
Hebrews 4:16
As we start a new week, I want us to concentrate on a word which I hope will encourage us. The word can be both a positive and negative word. Positive when we really believe that is what we truly hav, negative when deep inside we know it is not there.
Today in this present crisis assurance is a word we really want to hear, and yet we know governments, NHS and such other wonderful people who are helping, sacrificing and laying down their lives for us just cannot give us that real assurance, and rightly so. Scientists and others working are hard on a vaccine who believe that it is a matter of time before a vaccine will be found, but they rightly cannot give us an assurance as to when. Do pray for these wonderful people trying to help us.
We must however maintain a healthy view, that we will come through; believe we will be a lot stronger and our world will change to be a far better place to live than before we entered into this crisis.
What about now? Well, God wants to encourage us to do something that I believe will help us through this difficult time. God would ask us to come to Him for assurance. Simply come to Him, not timidly but boldly!
Jack Hayford said this: “Come boldly means without reservation, with frankness, with full and open speech. We approach a throne of grace, not of judgement, obtaining mercy for the past and grace for the present and future”.
I do hope this verse is already filling you with assurance, and as we this week unpack these truth from Hebrews 4:16 I ask you to remember the hymn writer’s beautiful words? Blessed assurance Jesus is mine.
