Who do you say I am? (Matthew 16:13-15)
Yesterday we saw two guys who made a decision to follow Jesus after spending time with Him.
Lots of other men and women during Jesus life time also made the same decision including Peter who was Andrew’s brother (Andrew was one of the two guys who initially made contact with Jesus).
It is Peter who answers that question who do you say I am and we are informed that the Spirit of God had revealed it to Peter personally. Can I say the same Spirit is still doing it 2000 years later. In fact this is where Christianity begins for everyone for we need that Spirit to reveal who Jesus really is.
So how do you answer questions like: –
What do you think of Jesus?
Who would you say He was?
Many people have diverse opinions of Jesus but how many have taken time out to get the facts about Jesus as the two guys did yesterday,
The Bible records Jesus own words about Himself in seven statements.
1) I Am the Bread of Life John 6:22-59,
2) I Am the Light of the World John 8:12-30.
3) I Am the door or gate John 10:1-18
4) I Am the Good Shepherd John 10:1-18
5) I Am the resurrection, and the life John 11:17-27
.6) I Am the way, the truth, and the life John 14:6
7) I Am the true vine John 15
As I say everyone has an opinion on Jesus but it is your Personal opinion that really matters. We must make a choice.
Back to the original conversation in which Jesus first asked a question after arriving in the village of Caesarea Philippi,“What are people saying about who the Son of Man is?
The disciples thought about that and replied some think he is John the Baptiser, some say Elijah, some Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” You can almost hear the disciples saying to themselves after their answer to Jesus :”glad that is over”, but not for Jesus who comes back with another question “And how about you? Who do you say I am?”
You can hear the disciples whispering to one another “I knew He would ask that” as they huddled in a bunch (just like footballers do before a game) a holy huddle as we followers of Jesus would say.
Ok guys anyone got an answer? The verses tell us Jesus pressed them, I need an answer guys. Just then Peter says got it guys (Phew) You are the Messiah (God’s own son) the saviour of the world
Jesus came back, “God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn’t get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am. Matthew 16 :17-18
Now what was true for Peter is true for you and me. Whether you are still unsure who Jesus is, or for those who have made that decision of who Jesus is we need our Father in Heaven constantly to reveal more about Jesus daily through the Spirt.
I personally can answer Jesus question, you are the one who God sent to take my sin away and I accept that is who you are, my saviour and also the one I can trust in to keep me safe in these different times
Who do you say I am? (Matthew 16:13-15)
Stay safe and Blessed.
