For me of all the senses, losing one’s sight would be the worst thing.
I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones!
Ephesians 1:18
The verse above shows how much the apostle Paul wanted Jesus to illuminate the eyes of the followers of Jesus. In fact, Paul wants them to see beyond their imagination.
I have often been told to close my eyes and imagine something. I find it impossible to do. Thank God that is not what Paul is asking us to do. Paul is saying we need God, through His Holy Spirit, to see things we could not possibly see. In other words flooding us with light, in a spiritual sense, to see how to live our lives as followers of Jesus.
So what did Paul mean when he wrote the words “I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of His calling”?
First Paul wants us to know this is spiritual. We need to have the spirit of God to be able to put into practice what God is saying. We thank God the day we decided to follow Jesus we received that gift.
Secondly, it is spiritual understanding. Therefore it cannot be seen with our natural eye, please don’t try.
God wants you and me to see how we are to live for Jesus, and we do this by reading our Bibles and as we do we ask God through the Holy Spirt to help us not only understand but live it out.
Paul uses words that picture the heart looking out with eyes that have been brightened with divine illumination.
You see it is the desire of God that we understand Him well. God wants us to know not just in the mind but His truths with more than just our minds. God wants to open our eyes so that you can see who He really is. When we do our lives will be transformed and our hearts will be open to Him so much more.
Do you know we can be fully illuminated and enlightened to be so sure and certain with no doubts as to who we are and what we have by being a follower of Jesus? That will spur us on no matter what we face. No fear of what tomorrow might bring, just that certainty of knowing all is well because God is in control.
His power is available and a perfect example is found as Elisha prayed that the servant would see something that does not appear to the naked eye. They were facing a great crisis but Elisha could see a great army sent by God. His servant could not so fear became his only outlook. God then opened the spiritual eyes of this servant and he saw what Elisha saw, God’s heavenly armies waiting to do battle with the Syrians. The whole picture changed for that servant and it will for you too.
So why not pray today that the Holy Spirit will let you see great spiritual truths.
Stay Safe and Blessed.
