I’m sure you’ve heard the expression “is there anybody out there?”. Jesus used that expression not exactly in those words but in these words.
He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
Matthew 13:9
It seems pretty clear to me that Jesus was saying that not everybody was listening. In fact, you can almost hear Jesus say is there anybody out there?
Have you ever spoken to someone and you can tell by their body language they’re not really listening? Sometimes they’re like that dog at the back of a car that just nods.
I believe that Jesus Christ is speaking and it is obvious to me that we should listen. Jesus himself said that He was the light of the world and had come to show us the way back to God. That sentence alone has my attention for I need light and guidance for everyday life and I believe you do too.
When Jesus said those words in Matthew He had been telling the people a story. The story has a spiritual meaning, one in which Jesus wanted to make sure that everybody was listening because it was so so important. Our personal life is important but it is nothing compared to our spiritual life, for that part of our life never ends. Where it ends up is of vital importance.
So Jesus told His story that everyone would be able to comprehend and then gave us a spiritual application. Whoever you are you are involved in the story. What part of it, well that’s entirely your own choice.
Let’s conclude today with some important lessons.
- It is important to listen well when Jesus speaks because that is how faith is obtained – Romans 10:17
- Jesus gave a reason for teaching with stories. He wanted to make sure we could understand and benefit from what He said.
He did not want to leave us in any doubt so He explained everything.
That though seemed not to be enough, for as He Himself said, that not all those who have ears to hear, really listen!
I hope you are not one of them as Jesus said I have come to bring you life, everlasting life.
Stay safe and blessed.
