As we start a new week, let me ask a question; what is the best way to start the week?
I was always told as a child that breakfast was so important as it was the first meal of the day and it was important to start the day well. Over the weekend we would start the day by having a huge breakfast; you know what I mean eggs, bacon, beans, sausage etc. But this would not happen Monday to Friday; then it was simply cereal and toast! Nevertheless, this was just as important.
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognise what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Romans 12:1-2 The Message
Let me ask you when it comes to following Jesus what is the best way to start the week? Might I suggest three important things that I believe will help us to start off our week?
- Thanks: stems out of a consideration of what God has done
- Praise: stems out of an appreciation of how God works
- Worship: stems out of adoration of who God is.
Thanks
Robin Mark sings a great song called Give Thanks To The Lord. There he gives us some important things to thank God for. The main one is God’s love endures forever.
Stop and just thank God right now that He loves you forever. I am sure we have known what we thought was true love just to find out it did not last. You might have experienced pain and heartbreak over that word love. Well, today you can start your week with full confidence that whatever your week has in store God loves you. Through the good, bad and indifferent things that will develop this week, God’s love will be constant.
Praise
Stems out of an appreciation of how God works. There is of course a famous verse in Romans that informs us God works out everything perfectly. You will not understand this at times and it may even seem illogical. The confidence God would give us today is because He loves us we can trust Him with how He will work our week out if we let Him. Stop now and think of one incident in which God worked out something in your life.
Worship
Stems out of adoration of who God is. What is your concept of God? Let me give you some things God is to encourage you this week.
- Eternal – no beginning no end.
- Self – existent. We were created. God was not.
- Immutable – never changes remains constant.
- All-powerful, all-knowing and all present.
- Loving, kind, compassionate and forgives us.
Now, why not take one or two of those items and let them saturate you this week? Breathe them in till you are fully resting in those wonderful things God is and we will talk more as the week goes on.
Have a great week, stay safe and try the best way to start the week with some:
- Thanks: stems out of a consideration of what God has done
- Praise: stems out of an appreciation of how God works
- Worship: stems out of adoration of who God is.
