Let us, then, feel very sure that we can come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we can receive mercy and grace to help us when we need it.

Hebrews 4:16

How? Come boldly!

I love invitations because generally it is an event that you would look forward to, or I do admit there are times you receive an invitation and you have reservations! I can remember my friend George receiving an invitation to go to the palace for the Queen’s garden party, a royal invitation indeed.

Today we are given that same privilege by another monarch namely the King of Kings. We are told Let Us and that, of course, is an invitation in itself. It requires us though to do something. An invitation generally ends with the word RSVP and that ties in nicely with God’s invitation.

God invites us to communicate with Him and gives us an assurance that we can. Not only is there an invitation, but there is a way in which we are told to enter His presence and that is Boldly

As we discovered yesterday Jack Hayford says this: “Come boldly means without reservation, with frankness, with full and open speech. We approach a throne of grace, not of judgement, obtaining mercy for the past and grace for the present and future”.

Our assurance (boldly) is based solely on the fact that Christ died to save us, and that Christ lives to keep us. We are assured of a hearty welcome because Christ has told us to come. Christ himself in Revelation 3:20 invites us to enter into His presence with a guarantee we will not be turned away. If I had gone with George that day to the palace I definitely would not have got through the gates and rightly so. How it is reassuring for me to know that today, tomorrow and throughout this crisis, I have admittance into a throne in heaven.

Note

The people in the Old Testament did not have this privilege, only the high priest could approach the throne, and then only on one day of the year. We today can go into His presence at any time of the day or night and obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Today more than ever we need to take up this invitation RSVP to enter into God’s presence with that assurance and boldness, so come on LET US do just that.

  • Wednesday: Where – to the throne of grace
  • Thursday: Why – that we might receive grace and mercy
  • Friday: When – in time of need
