Are you ready for some evaluation action and transformation today?
Yesterday we started a discussion about how to start the day well. In the natural, we decided it was good to have a breakfast to set us up for all we need to do during that day.
We also said how spiritually it is important to start the day well. Now for some of us the start of the day is not the best time to have a quiet time with God, but I believe Romans 12 tells us three important things that we can do throughout the working day. These three things are part of a natural make up which God wants to use to let others see how God can work in our lives through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans chapter 12 talks about these three things:
- How we think about ourselves – Evaluation
- Worship by giving of our bodies – Action
- Worship by renewing of our mind – Transformation
Rick Warren states “worship is simply bringing pleasure to God”.
The answer is, if you eat or drink, or if you do anything, do it all for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
Throughout today we can make the simple statement above happen in our lives. But it will require evaluation, action and transformation.
Let us see how these three things happened in one person’s life, King David. See if you can spot these three things.
King David said, “I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God that cost me nothing”.
2 Samuel 24:24
King David recognised that if he had no investment, the sacrifice was meaningless.
Here’s the interesting part, though. David knew he needed to offer a sacrifice at a particular place: the threshing floor of Araunah. The owner offered to give David everything he needed to make the sacrifice. The oxen, the wood for the fire, even the piece of property were willingly offered to the king.
If David had accepted, the sacrifice it would have looked exactly like the sacrifice he finally ended up offering. No one would have known any difference except David, and the guy willing to give these things to David and of course God. Outwardly it looked like a pretty cheap way cost-wise for David to do it.
In outward appearance, there would have been no difference. But David refused. He would not offer something to God that cost him nothing. David wanted evaluation, action and transformation.
Perhaps David was onto something? Maybe the Lord isn’t interested in what our worship looks like on the surface. You see, when you and I gather together weekly with brothers and sisters in Christ, we can appear to be involved in actual worship. We can sing and smile, perhaps play our instrument and help lead the congregation.
- But is that it?
- Is it just an appearance?
- Or are we truly making the necessary investment into what we’re offering to the Lord?
- Are our hearts really engaged with Him daily as we “worship” or does it just look proper on the outside?
- Are we honestly allowing God to mould and shape us with His Word throughout the week?
- Do we just leave it till Sunday morning and go through the motions?
- Are you making an investment in your worship to the Lord?
It will require an evaluation that leads to an action that will bring transformation. Today you can start and just remember what Rick Warren states. “Worship is simply bringing pleasure to God“.
If you eat or drink, or if you do anything, do it all for the glory of God.
