How many of you love Pirates of the Caribbean, in particular Captain Jack Sparrow? In one of the movies, Jack is looking for the fountain of youth. Yes, it is a movie, but the reality is some are genuinely looking for that fountain in real life. For years the human race has been addicted to the idea of a source of water that would heal and preserve you so that you could live forever.
You see I believe there are many, many “thirsty” people plodding through this life and wondering what happens in the next. Deep down I believe the human race know something is missing, but they just can’t figure out what it is, and to that extent, they go searching for something else to quench their thirst.
Jesus knew that too and just before He died He would attend a festival in Jerusalem. He knew who would be there. After all, this was a huge feast in the Jewish calendar so all types of people would be there, some who loved Him but others who sought to kill Him. Still, Jesus attended and you might ask why? Good question, after all, if someone wanted to kill me I don’t think I would stick my head above the parapet. Jesus did. Why? Because He knew at that feast there were people who wanted the fountain of life, tired of the life they had, not particularly wanting to seek an adventure like Jack Sparrow but just to be satisfied.
So Jesus leapt to a high point and shouted at the top of His lungs: “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”
John 7:37-38
(When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him).
They heard Him alright, even those who wanted to kill Him but Jesus was determined to tell people where the fountain of life really is.
Today the cry is the same. The fountain of life won’t be found in an ocean or in where they made the movie (Florida I believe) not even on a map or secret location. It is found in Jesus Christ. His cry two thousand years ago still stands today. He offers the fountain of life that is fulfilling and forever
I once heard an advert which said: “you must be in it to win it”. I believe if you are really thirsty for life you have to take that step too to be in it (accepting Jesus Christ as your personal saviour) to receive it (win it). When you trust Jesus as your only hope of salvation, as Jesus promised, you receive the Holy Spirit in your life and I promise you that guarantees you the fountain of life forever.
Stay safe and Blessed.
