I read about a man who God appeared to in a dream: God said, “What can I give you? Just think about it! Anything!!!!!” This was not someone rubbing a lamp for a genie to appear but an appearance from the creator of the world. Just think what would your request be. Freedom from this pandemic, job (my wife was made redundant last night). I think you get what I mean.

Where would wisdom appear on your list? Would it make the top ten?

That is what the guy asked for. His name was Solomon. Listen to what he says. “I don’t have the wisdom I need to do what I must do. I am your servant here among your chosen people. There are so many that they cannot be counted. So I ask you to give me the wisdom to rule and judge them well and to help me know the difference between right and wrong. Without such great wisdom, it would be impossible to rule this great nation.”

”God’s wisdom is the principle thing we all need to govern our lives. The Bible says we should seek God’s wisdom for our lives.

By wisdom the LORD founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens. By his knowledge the deep fountains of the earth burst forth, and the clouds poured down rain.

Proverbs 3:19

That same wisdom is available for this generation.

What exactly is “wisdom”? The dictionary defines “wisdom” as the ability to discern what is true or right. So our English word “wisdom” has a moral implication showing good judgement on what’s right coupled with an intellectual implication showing good judgement what’s true.

Wisdom is the God-given ability to perceive the true nature of a matter and to implement the will of God in that matter. Dr. Larry Lea

Proverbs 4 7:8 Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom! Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding! Throw your arms around her believe me, you won’t regret it; never let her go she’ll make your life glorious. She’ll garland your life with grace,

Today our government is seeking wisdom from as many specialists as they can to crack this pandemic and keep the country moving economically and socially a really difficult task. As followers of Jesus, we too should be like Solomon asking for that same wisdom for our P.M. and colleagues. You can use the very same words that Solomon used thousands of years ago. After all, the same God who spoke to Solomon still speaks today.

God answered that request and I believe he will for us too so why not make it part of your daily prayer and see our nation change.

There is a verse in Jeremiah which says “Also do good things for the city where I sent you as captives. Pray to the Lord for the city where you are living, because if good things happen in the city, good things will happen to you also.”

These verses are meant to encourage us to pray for the city we live in, for its peace and prosperity, and I pray that over Birmingham regularly reminding God that is what He asked me to do.

We do not need a genie. We have a God. We do not need to rub a lamp. We have permanent access into His presence so let us use that access to pray for wisdom for all leaders wherever they are.

Stay Safe and blessed.
