I tell you the truth, a grain of wheat must fall to the ground and die to make many seeds. But if it never dies, it remains only a single seed.

John 12:24 NCV

Have you ever had a small but significant stone get inside your shoe? You will not be able to walk far before you will have to stop and take your shoe off to get it out. Left in, you would soon be limping and in a great deal of pain, as I have experienced.

A speck of dust or eyelash in your eye will irritate and annoy you. Tears will stream down your face and you will be able to see nothing until the tiny speck of dust or eyelash has been washed out.

This lockdown is just like that. In January last year, we did not have a real sense of this virus but now we are in no doubt that what started out in 2020 has developed into a worldwide problem.

Sometimes small things can cause an awful lot of trouble.

Yet small things can also have tremendous potential or possibilities – and so do you. Remember what you are now is not what you will be in the future.

Take a seed, which I hope to be planting very soon. It is so small. You can hardly see it and yet from that seed, I will be hoping for a harvest.

The Bible verse reminds us that though it is so small this is what happens when we bury one seed.

Following on from seed let us take the example Jesus gave. Even though the mustard seed is one of the smallest of all seeds, when it is planted in the ground, it grows into a plant so large that birds can perch on its branches and can even build their nests in it. I have read that these tiny seeds can produce a plant that grows ten feet high or more!

An illustration

Gladys Aylward was known as a small woman but she did a significant thing. In 1938, the region was invaded by Japanese forces, and Gladys Aylward led over 100 orphans to safety over the mountains, despite being wounded herself. She not only led the orphans to safety but personally cared for them and led many of them to Christ. She never married but spent her entire life devoting herself to Christ, and His work in the hearts of the people of China.

Why did Gladys do this? and save hundreds of people?

Well! Gladys remembered the story Jesus told how a mustard seed grew up to be a big tree and gave shelter to the birds and animals helping them to have shelter.

Gladys followed Jesus example for Christians who believe Jesus died so we can have a relationship with God and call Him our heavenly Father Jesus giving up His life has led to millions of people becoming Christians and putting their faith in Him.,

That is why Gladys did this small but significant act and saved hundreds of children.

You too may think you are small in this big world. If you do here is something you should know. You are significant. The question is what are you going to do?

Stay safe and blessed.
