As we begin a new week, with all the things we have to achieve in our busy schedules, it is worth noting something that will help us not only to achieve but something that will lift our spirits – a call to praise.

Whether you are looking or not looking forward to the week let me give you a word to inspire your week ahead.

I believe if we start every day in praise it will help us to achieve so much more.

In Psalm 33, David the writer asks us to do three important things. A call to praise (vv. 1–3), a cause for praise (vv. 4–19) and a confidence to praise (vv. 20–22).

David then gives four reasons why our week can be really good:

  • The greatness of our God.
  • The goodness of our God.
  • The sovereignty of our God.

Before we do or say anything this week God encourages us to a call to praise. We praise God when we do one or a combination of the following:

Give thanks.

Praise the Lord because he is good to us, and his love never fails.

1 Chronicles 16:34 (CEV)

What a wonderful statement for your new week! God is good and never stops loving us. Yes when we get down, upbeat, angry, happy etc, God still loves us. Why not take that thought and carry it around with you – it will help you to praise Him! By the way, just saying “Thank you God for loving me” is praise!

I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in your name.

Psalm 63:4

Followers of Jesus often lift their hands as they sing or pray. It is an expression.

Every day I call upon you, O LORD; I spread out my hands to you” ().

Psalm 88:9

Followers of Jesus believe worshipping God is so important and that it involves our bodies as well as our hearts and minds. We are saying to God everything you give us, minds soul, spirit and yes our bodies are passionate about you and we want to express it.

How often this week will you thank someone for doing something for you? Well God has done something wonderful for us. God sent His son Jesus to die for us and since God resurrected Jesus we can be assured that if we invite Jesus into our lives we have a saviour living inside us to help us. That is a kind act if ever I saw one. So let me leave you today with a call of praise from Psalm 107:15

Oh, that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.

Psalm 107:15
