Today we look at discipleship after yesterday’s post about becoming a disciple.

So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptise them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything that I have taught you.

Matthew 28:19-20

We ended yesterday with an example from James Bond and we noticed four things that helped James to accomplish his mission. There is one thing however we need to know in particular that God promised; that He would always be with us. James Bond doesn’t have that luxury, although M is always contactable. Often Bond wants to do things his way!

We too can be like that, trying to do it our way. It is very important that concept goes out of the window!

In the book of Joshua, the very first thing we learn is that God reminds Joshua that he will be with him always and that victory is assured as long as Joshua remains in that relationship.

Paul himself reminds us in the book of Ephesians chapter 3 that God is able to do abundantly more than we ask and then gives us a lovely prayer about our relationship with God.

If we are intent on becoming a disciple of Jesus this is paramount that we constantly remind ourselves that God is with us, for us and is able to do things in our lives that truly will blow us away.

Think about this; why does God create Adam on Day 6? Why doesn’t he create him on Day 1? Because if he’d created him on Day 1 it would have been dark and there would have been nowhere to stand! You see by the time God creates Adam he’s made everything ready for Adam. There’s ground to stand on, air to breathe, a gorgeous environment to enjoy, delicious, nutritious food to eat, water to drink, animals to look after, purposeful work to be done.

It is this amazing God that Paul was talking about. So I leave you with this and I hope it encourages you.

Jesus taught us about everything – work, rest, play, money, wealth, poverty, generosity, sex, power, government, tax, parents, children, friendship, relationships, death, grief, holiness, justice, business, agriculture, animals, God, idols, satan, heaven, hell, prayer, eternal life, abundant life, the kingdom of heaven … and the heavenly kingdom.

I hope you agree there’s an awful lot for us to get our teeth into, so be encouraged. Jesus has all the answers on how we can achieve the goal of becoming a disciple of Jesus.

To do that though you must do as God said to Joshua. Meditate on his word both day and night.

Stay safe and Blessed
