As we start this week it is worth reminding ourselves that we do not face this week alone – in fact, it’s totally the opposite! Followers of Jesus have been given promises and assurances that being alone will not be our misfortune. The reason is that Jesus has given us an inheritance – have you received your inheritance?
Generally, in order to receive an inheritance, someone has to die. That is the case with the followers of Jesus, Jesus had to die in order for us to receive our inheritance. That gives us this great hope and assurance to face the week.
The benefits of belonging to Jesus are worth reminding ourselves of. Especially if you are not looking forward to the week ahead!
Jesus gave you hope and a future. When Jesus died on the cross he made a way of relationship with God by taking away our sin and guaranteeing us to be with Jesus in heaven, not the other place (Hell). Yes, I believe hell is real because Jesus said so. Jesus though told us “I have a good future for you”.
The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11:
For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.
Jesus had to die to give us hope and a future.
So remember this…
He didn’t leave us a coffee table, or jewellery or money. He gave us so much more! When Jesus died we inherited the kingdom of Heaven. Let’s look at our will: to everyone who has asked me into their hearts and is living for me …
- I give you my love, it will last forever.
- I give you peace to rule your hearts.
- I give you the forgiveness of sins, you never have to feel ashamed.
- I give you my power to withstand the enemy.
- I give you the Holy Spirit. He will be a constant friend.
- I give you access to Heaven where you will spend eternity with me.
