Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. Remember the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success.

Proverbs 3:5-6

For 2021 it is imperative that as a church, family and individual we not only start but throughout the whole year make it an integral part of life to seek God’s guidance continually.

You know the famous verses in Proverbs 3:5-6 but they are worth not only reading but applying again this year.

Last night I was shocked at how a country standing for democracy has suddenly fallen into chaos over a voting issue. Whatever the rights and wrongs there are ways to behave and this is certainly not one of them.

Let us be aware and not fall into the same trap. To help us the First and Second Timothy and Titus are commonly designated Pastoral Epistles because they provide instruction and guidance concerning the care and protection of the churches.

The three letters focus upon church life as well as upon leadership qualifications and responsibilities. The need for sound doctrine and a life of godliness are recurring themes throughout these last three letters written by Paul.

God says He will guide and direct us. He will lead us into a balanced life to make proper decisions.

The big question though is will we obey God’s will if He reveals it to us? Trusting & obeying is what is absolutely necessary to be guided by God.

So today let us encourage each other to make a decision throughout this year to do just that.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us four main things…..

5a. TRUST GOD,
5b. DON’T FULLY TRUST YOURSELF,
6a. TOTAL OBEDIENCE,
6b. PROMISED DIRECTION,

There is a great hymn I sang and loved as a child and the words are very powerful. As you read them and then listen to them I hope you will be encouraged:

When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do His goodwill,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favour he shows,
for the joy He bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Stay Safe and Blessed.
