When we have the opportunity to help anyone, we should do it.
Galatians 6:10
I have often spoken about Kyros moments. They are moments which do not often come around but when they do they are generally significant and you have to seize the moment.
Did you know also it only takes a brief minute and suddenly the chance of an opportunity to do something has gone.
We are facing yet again another lockdown, but perhaps that just might give us the opportunity to help someone else. Social media is so available that we can very easily keep in touch with just about anyone.
Moments of opportunity are chances for us to make a difference in the lives of others.
I spoke on the topic of small yet significant recently and you don’t have to do huge things to make a difference. Little acts of kindness and care for people are ways we can extend a helping hand.
As followers of Jesus, we are supposed to look for moments where we can do good to others and help them. But those moments of opportunity don’t last forever. That’s why you’ve got to be quick to respond and quick to do something when you see the chance.
I remember being told a Bible story when I was a child of how four people seized the opportunity to help a man who could not walk.
They heard Jesus was, in town and thought this could be our only opportunity to help our friend.
The problem was multitudes had the same idea in the sense they wanted to see Jesus while they could, So they swarmed around Jesus making it impossible to get near Jesus.
The storyteller lays stress on the situation by saying there was no room, which indicates the problem that the friends of the lame man faced. They had heard about Jesus This was an opportunity of a lifetime. This was their chance for him to be healed. This could be the Kyros moment for their friend, an opportunity to do something small yet significant.
The power to make a difference lay in these four guys hands. So they picked up their friend and headed towards the house where Jesus was but by the time they showed up, the house was jam-packed and there was absolutely no room left anywhere. There was no way in. They could have just turned around and gone home but they did not. They knew this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Today or especially from Thursday you may well find yourself in that position at times, knowing you have to help someone and it may not be easy. What are you going to do?.
Well, take a lesson from these friends. They did not allow difficulties to stop them. They were determined to get to see Jesus.
As they could not get into the house through the door they went up on to the flat roof and literally opened up the tiling to lower their friend through the roof. I am not sure how the owner of the house reacted but I do know how Jesus reacted. Jesus too took the opportunity to help this lame man and cured him.
How great to have friends who would go to any lengths to help and perhaps in the next few weeks we may have to do just that.
The friends seized the opportunity so what about you and me?
Who do you know that may well just need a call, a shopping trip etc. Remember the verse says When we have the opportunity to help anyone, we should do it. Galatians 6:10
Stay Safe and Blessed.
