But the fact of the matter is that it is best for you that I go away, for if I don’t, the Comforter won’t come. If I do, He will, for I will send Him to you John 16:7 The Message

I am sure you have heard of the above title.

Let me encourage you who follow Jesus. Those words are very true in our relationship with God.

Since the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit’s work has been and still is a mighty influence both in the world today and on the believer.

In the believer (followers of Jesus) the Spirit is permanent and should be a positive influence leading us more and more into a knowledge of the Saviour.

The work of the Holy Spirit is clearly seen in the book of Ephesians regarding the believer.

How does the Holy Spirit work then in the believer?

In the book of Ephesians six facts are given, one in each chapter.

One fact is in Ephesians 1:13-14. We are told we have the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

His presence within us is God’s guarantee and seal that He really will give us all that He promised; and the Spirit’s seal upon us means that God has already purchased us and that He guarantees to bring us to Himself. This is a great reason for us to praise our glorious God.

The very first thing any believer should understand is that the Spirit within us is God’s guarantee that He really will give us all that He promised.

The promise of the Holy Spirit is found in John 16:7 But the fact of the matter is that it is best for you that I go away, for if I don’t, the Comforter won’t come. If I do, He will, for I will send Him to you. Since Jesus has kept this promise we can believe surely all the other promises Jesus has given us.

The spirit is also our “guarantee”. Now a guarantee is a good-faith down payment, assuring the completion of the transaction. The Spirit is not only a fulfilment of God’s promise to indwell His people, but is also a guarantee that He will bring them to their final inheritance. As a down payment or first instalment on their full redemption, the Spirit is a foretaste of the glory of the age to come. Take time out and read Romans 8:18–23.

We also notice that the Spirit is our Seal. The Spirit’s seal upon us means that God has already purchased us and that He guarantees to bring us to the end of our journey and live forever with God.  In Ephesians 4:30 it is repeated saying sealed till the day of redemption, in other words till Jesus comes back.

The very fact that the Holy Spirit is here, means Jesus has gone to heaven which means salvation has come and the fact that the Spirit is living inside means that our salvation is a certainty. That is the hope described in Hebrews, not a hope of might be, but a hope it has happened and we are just awaiting it’s complete fulfilment when Jesus returns. For this reason the writer tells us, This is just one more reason for us to praise our glorious God.

So as you continue to battle through this different time which you are facing, encourage yourself that if you follow Jesus, no matter what is happening in our world, you are Signed Sealed and Delivered completely in God through the work of Jesus and the indwelling of the Spirit.

Stay Safe and Blessed.
