How many like to receive gifts? I guess we all do, and particularly if it is a gift that we so desire.

I remember asking someone what they would like as a gift and they said they really did not need any gift as basically, they had all that they needed.

I also watched a programme where everyone who bought this person a gift did not realise that the person who received the gift would very quickly try to exchange it.

Do you know how our heavenly Father wants to give us good gifts? He tells us this in His word.

Every good action and every perfect gift is from God. These good gifts come down from the Creator of the sun, moon, and stars, who does not change like the shifting shadows.

James 1:17

God says earthly father knows how to give good gifts to their children, so we should expect our heavenly Father to give the best of all gifts to his children.

I finished yesterday’s blog by saying you could receive the Holy Spirit. This Holy Spirit is a gift but like I’ve mentioned above some may think they do not need it. They have what is needed to make their life work. I’ve always believed that if God wants to give me something it is worth having and secondly it will be the best gift that I could possibly receive.

Just before He was about to die Jesus talked to the disciples on receiving a gift while teaching on the subject of Prayer. Jesus wanted the disciples to have power in their lives, particularly when it came to Prayer. Jesus gave emphasis to the Holy Spirit as the good gift the Father wants to give us, a gift which in a sense sums up and includes all the other good gifts God wants us to have.

Jesus told the disciples that all power in heaven and on earth is given to Jesus. Jesus wanted them to receive that power in order to do the tasks He had in mind for the disciples, namely to tell everyone about the good news of Jesus. To do that they had to wait until they received that power which would happen at Pentecost and thus the birth of the church came into being with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Yes, this virus has power, but nothing compared to the power living inside all who are followers of Jesus.

  • Do you need to rekindle that power?
  • Do you need to seek God for more of that power?
  • Do you need to experience it for the first time?

This is not a power of force, but of a divine being called the Holy Spirit and it is ours for the asking.

Today I have just come off a Facebook meeting where we have been praying for the state of our world concerning this virus and also the economic, social and environmental impact that this virus is having. I believe if we continue to pray that we will win the victory over this virus, for after all Jesus told us to do just that.

Finally

I am so glad that when I do not know what to say that God tells me in Romans chapter 8 that the Holy Spirit does know and will go to the Father with the prayers that are on my heart that I just cannot seem to put into words. This is power indeed that someone is acting on my behalf when I myself am struggling not only what to say but on the situations in life, I am currently facing.
